What the festive season asks of an Indian home

From late September the calendar fills up. Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, then the wedding and housewarming season through winter. Houses that normally see four people see forty. The kitchen runs all day, the main door keeps opening, footwear piles up at the entrance, and the room a guest walks into is doing a great deal of work.

Scenting for guests arriving

Start half an hour before people are due. The point is for the room to already smell right when the door opens, not to be scenting the room while your guests are sitting in it.
